I find it curious that the price of conventional engine oil has spiked recently.

While we scream and yell about the price of gas at the pump going up or down 10 cents per gallon, the price of a quart of conventional motor oil is now anywhere from $3 per quart, to $6 per quart. It's absurd. Not too long ago, store brand oil (at places like OReillys) could be had for $1.09 per quart.

Gaahhhh!

???

They spiked a few months ago but they have come back down recently.
Rottela can still be found for $12 a gallon.

As fuel prices go up so does the cost of oil.

It is the lag time from when the store bought their innovatory.
Then the price goes up and they have to reorder, they pass the cost increase on to you.

I've never paid $3 a quart to start off with, it's usually been closer to $5-7 for the cars and $10+ for the bike. Then again, I buy nothing but synthetic, ESPECIALLY for the bike. The oil also lubes the transmission.

Yeah, I know. There's no mystery about what's happening. It's just aggravating.

I run Royal Purple in my bike. Watch for sales, and I get it for $8.99 per quart at OReillys.

That's actually the cheapest synthetic oil at OReillys right now.

Do you really need someone to explain the economic basis for why people scream and yell about the price of gas going up and not the price of a quart of oil? I should think it would be plainly obvious, but if needed I can go into detail...
