The best way to save on oil changes is to buy Synthetic Oil on sale, plus the oil filter on sale, and then change your synthetic oil once a year or every 10,000 miles. Cheaper than 4 convention oil changes + the saved time.
Indeed. You can score some good sales if you're watching closely.

I recently bought 5 quarts of Castrol & a filter, at O'Reillys, for $20.99. It comes with a $10 rebate. Not too shabby.

I'll sometimes do that in the dead of winter, if I really need an oil change. But I strongly prefer to change my own oil. I know exactly what I'm putting in the car, and I know I'm not going to strip the threads on the oil drain bolt or tighten the filter so much that it cannot be removed.

Well gee Wally, it had never before dawned on me that I spend more money on gas than motor oil in a year. Thanks for clarifying that.

But that's not what the thread is about, is it?

I don’t remember ever buying oil for a 1.09 a quart. I would be very scared to use oil that cheap in anything but a dying lawn mower. It’s one of those things that I often wonder how broke people really are. If any extra $15 on a three-month service is going to break the bank, you have bigger problems.

Want to save money on oil? Follow the manufacturer's recommedations on service intervals, not the oil company.

Some of these specialty/niche oils are getting over priced.

For you guys with points, try wearing a hat, It'll cover it up.
I use nothing but Fram filters and 4 cars that I purchased new all went well over 200,000 miles.

Well gee Wally, I asked you what your point was and you put the ball right back in my court without actually answering the question and asked what my point was. If you didn't want to know, you shouldn't have asked. So don't get all butt-hurt when I explain myself per your own request.

Last 10 years my routine is change oil Nov 1 then again May 1,i use Mobil1 synthetic and have never had an oil related problem with a car, usually the oil change equates to about every 8-10K miles.
I've always believed those that are into the 3K oil change are just throwing their money away.
