Selling a car for private party value is hard work. Buyers who go to craigslist or similar don't want to pay retail so they are looking for a bargain. I've sold several cars and buyers are really picky and never offer what it's worth unless you have a specific model that's in demand. I agree with putting it on CL for $6500 and see what kind of offers you get. Trade in isn't always the best financial move, but sometimes it's the easiest way to go - especially if the car has issues. Best of luck to you.
