Don't know about Kimi but Alonso was on the harder tires, could be they're planning a different strategy than the other front runners.
Yeh I noticed that and thought the same. Hoping that anyway. 10th place will be some work though and possibly stress the tires making his way up, which could mean premature wear.
Will be interesting to see how Mercedes do. We know they are good in qualifying.
Force India is expected to do well too.
Vergne also said he is very happy with his car.
Very impressed with the Force India qualifying! I don't know if Red Bull will take Sutil though. While he hasn't gotten into trouble this season, his history would make me think Red Bull would be a bit hesitant to pick him up. Though he is an excellent driver and I think he would do very well in a Red Bull car.
I think based on Kimi's driving style if he was on the harder tires it may be a good strategy even though he qualified poorly. The Lotus car and his driving style don't wear the tires as much as the other teams. However, I just checked and both he and Alonso qualified on the medium tires. Button is the only top 10 qualifier that is on the hard tire. (Looks like someone got a grid penalty.) I still think that Kimi may do well as he may not need to stop as much as the others, but I think Alonso will have a difficult time getting on the podium.
Of course, this also depends on thinks turning around for Mercedes and their tire issues that plagued them before no longer being an issue.
I wait for my husband to come home before watching the actual race so it will be awhile before I check back in. I have no idea what time he will be home and I'm avoiding all social media and news sites in an effort to not find out the results!

I think in some ways the accident in Hungary several years ago still haunts him, probably a lot easier to shake off a crash that was your fault than one you had no control over.

He is not consistent enough. Massa, in fact, has not been been the same since the accident four years ago.

In the 3 years after his accident he was 6th, 6th, and 7th in the drivers championship, the 7th(2012) in a less than top-tier car, seems pretty consistent to me.
I wouldn't give up on him just yet, Alonso doesn't exactly have a history of playing well with others so I don't see Ferrari looking to have two #1s.

I would call that consistently mediocre. He was brilliant back in 2008 and did very well in 2006 and 2007.
Schumacher vs. Massa
2006: 121-80 (Massa finished 3rd in the Championship)
Räikkönen vs. Massa:
2007: 110-94 (Massa finished 4th in the championship)
2008: 75-97 (Massa finished 2nd in the championship)
2009: Massa was injured
Alonso vs. Massa:
2010: 252-144
2011: 257-118
2012: 278-122
2013: 111-57
Well, it may not have been pretty but it was certainly exciting!
Yes it was.
