Something has to be done about the HUGE number of commercials during a LIVE race!! It's now nearly 50% commercials while the race is going on. I used to love NASCAR on tv but now it's horrible.

Cup race broadcasts broken down - cawsnjaws

Example:
2012 Goody's Fast relief 500 at Martinsville
Total minutes of complete broadcast: 224
Minutes of race broadcast: 178
Minutes of traditional commercials (not split-screen): 46
Minutes of ‘Side-by-Side’ commercials (split-screen): 5

I am sure if the NASCAR officials and the drivers would take a 50% pay cut they could have less commercials.

Remember back in the day when there were few commercials the top drivers were making 100K a year instead of 10M a year.

Good seats were $20 instead of $100.+

Precisely why I always TiVO the race and start watching an hour or so after it starts. I can zip through the commercials and the occasional red flag.

That is what I'm talking about. Sadly these drivers and all the rest that have anything to do with NASCAR will never take a drop in pay for any reason. The times they are a changin'. I've seen prices go up in everything but nothing like with this sport and all in such a short time. Guess the tv exposure is what changed it all. Honestly I've even gotten to the point that just listening to the race while I'm working online drives me nuttso--the commentators need to talk racing and leave opinions out of the picture!

i don't begrudge the drivers much for their contracts.. They need to make all they can while they can... I still think most drivers make less on average than any of the other big 3 (fb,bb, bkb).

Way to go Bruton! Bristol's current configuration stinks and I'm glad he's doing something about it.

Spoiler
And simultaneously telling the wussy drivers to shut up and deal with it!
