The fans hated the two-car tandems and screamed for pack racing so NASCAR obliged and as usual took their tweaks too far. The "pack" was mostly single file because nobody in the outside lane could catch up to the leaders.

After a 30 hour postponement and a 2 hour red flag to fix the Montoya inferno, that finish was completely underwhelming. Awful race. Hopefully NASCAR doesn't bring this rules package back to Talladega because I'd rather watch them push shopping carts around the track than watch another 500 miles of that crap.

The action was not as exciting as usual. The outside lane just couldn't move..

Awesome finish by Junior tho. Too bad Biffle didn't have the cahona's to pull out and challenge Matt at the end. May have given Junior a shot for the win 3 wide coming across the line.

And I'm pleased with being able to see the firey crash of Montoya into a jet dryer. Won't likely ever see that again!

Personally I'd rather see them packed up than racing tandem. I'm more into watching the pileups than watching the same 2 cars lead for 500 miles.

2011 Daytona 500 - 74 lead changes
2012 Daytona 500 - 25 lead changes

The tandems produce more lead changes because the two cars can actually run down the leaders. Nobody could get a run tonight, and to me that's worse than the tandems because all you have to do to win is ride the yellow line.

I saw a completely different race. Was it the best? No. But it beat the tandem racing IMO. Earnhardt wouldn't have passed Biffle last year.

Biffle said he couldn't get a run on Kenseth at the end.. perhaps if he had pulled out on the backstretch, jr could have given him a run.. who knows. The finish was not bad.. but the race definitely lacked something. The bottom lane was the go lane and the outside lane simply would not go... if you look at the last 40 laps.. kenseth, led 'em all. when was the last time that happened at Daytona.. ??

I think you also have to consider who was behind Kenseth. That's the nature of plate racing with teammates.

The race was pretty dull, It may have something to do with a 30 hour wait, and a large two hour break. That or the fact the inside lane was in form with the old style freight train. I've seen better driving on a Bay Area freeway.

Even as it was, last night's race beat any tandem style race hands down!

And yes, it's too bad Biffle didn't want to win. He and Jr would have easily put Kenseth back to 3rd and dueled it out amongst themselves. But, in the long run, the 16 played loyal teammate and put himself back to 3rd.

Congrat's to Kenseth and team. Not my choice to win, but they did it well!

Good work Jr! There's nothing like a strong 2nd if you just can't pull off a win.

Bottom line is if your guy doesn't win it's a lousy race.

Well my guy didn't win but my used to be guy did so I am pleased but RESTRICTOR PLATE racing still sucks no matter who wins.

Come on NASCAR, GM caught up with Ford power when they brought out the SB2 engine.
Time to get back to real racing like they do at the other non restrictor plate tracks.
