Don't forget how much the hipster population swells. I work next to the Magnolia Cafe on Lake Austin Blvd. I looked out my window into the parking lot at all the people waiting outside, and I swear it looked like Williamsburg out there!

It kinda sucks to be working while this is going on. All day the bass from Aud. shores has been thumping our building and like 75% of the office has cleared out. Lucky bastards.

So, do people from Austin hate SXSW then? it seems like a pretty cool idea, a bunch of bands coming to your area that normally wouldn't be there for an extended period of time.

Having said that, I can see that the influx of "tourists" would be kinda annoying. But then again, i've always believed that the more tourists you have, the better your city is.

I don't think I'd say that. I am sure there are some that do, but many others take advantage of it.

Ive never been but I think it is awesome

I also like the increase in traffic congestion because it is a sign that austin is thriving.

During the dot com bust, there was no friday night wait at musashino's. That was scary...

No, I definitely like SXSW. It's great for Austin's culture and economy. I just really dislike hipsters, and SXSW seems to bring lots of them to Austin.

Would you mind defining "hipsters"?

While I don't participate in it (don't do crowds really well which is why I don't attend a lot of the Austin traditions that I used to be religious about going to), I think SXSW is awesome.

No hate here!

I guess they would have been "mod" or "beatniks" in the 60's. They rock the skinny jeans, 80's shades, and vintage tees with the token fedora/derby hat time on occasion. Anti-establishment, you won't ever see them riding in a Hummer, and if they go to Starbucks, adn their friends catch them, they'll be excommunicated for supporting the "man". Okay the last part was kinda sarcastic. They like the bands Of Montreal and The Decemberists for example. I don't hate them for any reason. They don't really practive any kind of destructive behavior besides passive-aggressiveness.
