Well, we'll be in Georgetown tomorrow for some games. If the kids win, there will be a couple of hours between games.

Besides squeezing skeins of yarn at the store on 8th street (I know...my husband laughed too), what else is there? I am hoping to wander around downtown if the preschooler and the 9 yo soccer player are up for it but I know they will tolerate it for only so long.

There is a great 'trinket' shop on the square that has pottery, carving, painting, etc. from local and/or unique artists...no mass produced stuff. I can't think of the name, but it is on the E. side of the square.

However, that may not be the best for kids (although there are some really cool toys there, too), so you can check out San Gabriel Park, which is really, really nice. Quiet section of damed up river with geese and ducks, lots of shade and huge cotton woods and pecan trees. Nice little spring that flows into the river (what 9 yo can resist flowing water?).

There is a restaurant on the NW corner of the square that serves ice cream, floats, shakes, and other desserts in the upstairs. Haven't been there in a while, but it was really good and I hope it is still in business.

Train, we were in that place just last month so yup its still there. Had a bowl of ice cream on the top floor. If you want some BBQ you might try Dukes on the access road of 35 north right next to the San Gabriel river. If its not raining they have a huge place to run around in and explore in their back yard.

Thanks for the dining recommendations. Our oldest is on a particular diet and it really limits where we can eat unfortunately. Oddly enough, we need to eat at places like Subway, McDonalds, Burger King. Chuy's is off limits, too

There's a McDonald's close to San Gabriel Park. Get some food and have a snack or lunch. My daughter ends up completely soaked every time we go there. she loves that stream! There's also some kind of resturaunt by the park, but me and my neighbor have never been, so couldn't tell you if it's good or not, but there are always lots of cars. Maybe check out the courthouse. It just finished it's remodel and is supposed to be very historically accurate.

The huge playscape by the community center is fun and there's picnic tables for the McDonald's take-out

The 'trinket' shop I'm guessing is the Escape. Nice place to browse, don't know about brining in the kids with all the pottery & glass. There is a children's bookstore on the corner of that same block.

I know this sounds cheesy, but when I need to take the 3 kids out and weather isn't the greatest, we just go to Target or Wal Mart and hang out at the store Hmmm, I think it's about time Georgetown gets a mall!
