What I found frustrating was the lack of clear information about what traffic routes they wanted people to follow.
The electronic sign board on 130 southbound had different directions than the back of the parking pass I got in the mail, and there was nothing useful on the cota website. I didn't find anything in the Statesman about routes either.
Getting out was a bit disorganized, but really not bad. This was definitely a great event to ride to since motorcycles got prime parking and a gear check, but not practical with the whole family.

$30/day for parking was excessive. We were in the P lot, and there was nothing close about hiking in from there to the main grandstand.

I noticed all the people walking down FM812 to/from these private lots. Prices seemed to range from $10-20, at least when I took notice. Further out the cheaper. Some of the closer lots I noticed were off the Piland Triangle, behind the convenient store (Exxon) for $15. You really have to map out your seats and weigh in the best entry points, or you'll be walking quite a ways out there!

After using FM812 on Sat, we opted to take the next exit (Moore) off 130, and backdoor our way in and out, since we were parked on the SE side. Worked out fine.

I could see a remote parking industry popping up if they keep charging prices like that. When we went to a concert there, the parking was $12 if you bought it ahead of time. That is acceptable, to me, whereas $30 is getting a little steep. Actually setting up a shuttle type service and some parking on some private land could become lucrative very quickly.

"No pedestrians, with or without a ticket, or vehicles without the proper credentials will be admitted into the circuit"

From their info, this looks to put a damper on the 'bandit' parking lots. It'll be interesting to see how the parking situation plays out for concerts and such.

I wanted to do that on my 25 acre property which is about 300 yards west of the west side shuttle bus entrance to the COTA.

However, the county tax office warned landowners that we could lose our agriculture exemption if we charged for parking. That would cost me at least $50,000.

There were tons of private parking lots all around the track. Also tons of folks walking in from these lots and there wasn't anyone turning folks away, so while they may have threatened, they were not acting on those threats. I found a $10 lot that was a fence away from one of the "official" lots, I was happy.

Great weekend BTW, other than some minor sunburn it was very cool seeing the MotoGP bikes again (even if the awesome sound of the Honda v5 was not there this time around). Not nearly as many motorcyclists as I expected (compared to Central Cali).

131k in attendance. Wasn't F1 3-day around 265k or double?

Still surprised there was no shuttle option.
