Interesting fact... long before Cap Metro, Austin had it's own streetcar system. Probably connected the urban core really well, back in the 1920s. The streetcars were replaced by buses in the 1940s... wonder if it had anything to do GM?

Most towns had streetcars from the 20s -50s. In fact, I believe it's E. 4th downtown that still has some exposed tracks on the street?

If PT is done correctly (cost vs time vs aesthetics) people love it. If it's half-*ssed, well I guess it turns into an expensive novelty.

So thats what shakes my tires on 4th street! Right, those are old trolly tracks.........I guess that was a shopping district sector of town if the trolly ran down it...hard to say looking at the buildings....

Actually that's where all the brothels were. So, I guess, yes, it was a shopping district.
