Hi everyone! Good News/Bad News. Bad News: I've been laid off from my job on Monday. Something beyond my control, but these things happen. Good News: this opens the opportunity for new beginnings. I currently live in Orlando, FL, and i was dating this girl in Dallas. i went to visit her and she took me to Austin for the weekend. I felt and instant connection with the city; the food, the music, the people, the vibe, atmosphere, dog friendliness, the fun... i seriously could list for days. Anyways, i loved it so much that i made a goal to move there by the summer. Well, due to this recent turn of events, it seems as if i can make the jump sooner. the thing is in my job searching, ive found that the technical jobs in Austin are more geared towards software, silicon valley-esque type of jobs. I'm a Mechanical Engineer, and it seems these jobs are few and far between. Ive checked indeed.com, monster, the classifieds, and a few other websites but cant seem to find any luck. Heck, ive even considered teaching myself some software engineering just to make this happen. I think i need a kick in the right direction if anyone cares to provide any input. I would greatly appreciate any sort of advice. Thank you in advancce

Looking on Indeed.com, there seems to be alot of mechanical engineer jobs geared towards design, testing, development and construction. If you can revise your resume to highlight those qualities in your skill set, you should do very well here.

Also, Austin employers are also very keen on hiring talent that has an Austin-area address listed, see if you can purchase an Austin PO Box remotely. I guarantee you will get callbacks! Good luck!
