I am fairly new to the Austin area and am used to eating breakfast at places like The Good Egg, La Peep, The Eggery, and so on. I can't find anywhere around here that has skillets, omelettes, eggs benedict, etc. I don't want mexican breakfast foods, but would like somewhere other than IHop and Cracker Barrel. Any suggestions anyone?

I like Cafe Java. I've only been to the N. Austin location but the RR one gets good reviews too. Cafe Java - Austin, Texas

Cafe 620. It gets mixed reviews and I haven't been in a long time but might be worth a try.

We too are new, we tried Cafe 620, we were not impressed. Lousy potatoes, really lousy.

The 1431 Cafe in Cedar Park also gets good reviews on Yelp, its on our list to try.

For me, Cafe 620 does a better job with the bakery goods as compared to the table service. Nice folks, but not great for breakfast.

+1 for 1431 Cafe...sort of a $1 more than Jim's kind of place; although they have some interesting fish specials at lunch from time to time.

As long as we're making them travel, Z Tejas @ Parmer/Avery Ranch Blvd has a killer brunch on the weekends...muffins and cornbread often included. A bit pricey if you're looking for pancakes, hotcakes, flapjacks(not sure where you're from ) .

Back to the chains, Mimi's Cafe and La Madeline are pretty dependable. Mimi's is a zoo on the weekends at most locations.

Round Rock Cafe gets good reviews for the food, less good for the service. I don't think it's BAD, I think they sometimes forget which little room some folks are in . Plan to wait a while, breakfast or lunch, if they get busy.

AND...if you don't mind a bit of a trip and a bit of a wait(on weekends)...another chain...Original Pancake House has killer skillets and such. Just a few minutes down IH-35 to Parmer and maybe a half-mile NW.
The Original Pancake House - Austin, TX

I see no one has mentioned The Monument Cafe in Georgetown.

And if you're going to travel, REALLY travel and go to The Omeletry at 4811 Burnet Road in North Austin.

The service is mediocre, and it is a stripped down version of what Le Peep offers. But they do eggs well.
