My partner and I are a colored lesbian couple and we want to move to a place in texas that isn't to big, safe place to start a family and at least lesbian accepting. We don't mean tonguing each other down in public but atleast would not do hate crimes on us or stare forever if they saw us holding hands or with our kids. So is round rock a good place to be or should we choose another city around Austin, if so, which one. Please make any comments you would like to help me make this decision. Thanks

What the hell does "colored" mean?

No, Round Rock is not ready for you, hon. Seriously, it's filled with women who collect crosses for their walls, vote Republican, and play Bunko.

Look into central/South Austin. Austin's just not that progressive, really.

Not a factual statement.

The city of Austin itself is somewhat liberal (by Texas terms) but once you leave Austin it gets more conservative. That goes for any of the bigger cities here in Texas..blue dots in a sea of red.

XLadylawX is correct. Round Rock is not truly that way. Of course you'll see a few people like that, but really, overall everyone is pretty live and let live. Believe it or not, there are lesbian and gay male couples out here. Even have some in my neighborhood and they have kids too. Go further South of Austin like Kyle and Buda and we could probably say the same untrue statement about the women there as well.

The lesbian couple that lived down the street from us for several years never had any social problems with the neighborhood as far as I know. Neither have the black, Hindu, Paki, Chinese, Vietnamese, Jewish, Mexican, or California families. If they have, they're mighty quiet about it.

We live just west of Round Rock in the Meadows of Brushy Creek.

Round Rock is also pretty large (population around 100,000), very large school system (good, but makes it difficult to get into sports unless you are really good).

Would you ever consider Seattle, WA? We have a huge gay population and a big melting pot of races and lifestyle choices. Don't know if your heart is set on Texas, but just tossing out another idea....

Oh, geez. I would think even Round Rock would be a step up from Killeen, as far as acceptance goes.
