I need some advice on a potential road trip. I am flying into Austin on a Saturday morning and should be downtown by 11am. I plan to stay in Austin all day on Saturday and until about 5pm on Sunday.

I will leave Austin at 5 and drive down to San Antonio. I plan to be in San Antonio until about 5pm the following day.

I then have Tuesday and Wednesday to do whatever. First off is that enough time in SA and Austin or should I allow more time?

If that is enough time where should I go next? I thought about driving up to Dallas and doing that? Considered Houston but I really don't know what to do there. I havent booked my return flight so up for anything. I have even considered hopping the Mega bus from Austin to Memphis, because I have always wanted to go there.

Anything you can tell me will help! I am 25 and want to have a good time, see the sites and eat some great food. All of this traveling will take place first week in February.

It could be a crapshoot, weather-wise. It could be 90 or 19 during your visit(or both). It's possible you could see some of the best weather Texas has to offer...luck of the draw, I reckon.

It's been too many decades since I was 25, so I'll let some of the younger folk help you with that 'good time'.

Personally, i'd allow for a little more time in Austin. Easy town to have a good time in. Search these pages for lots of tips about good eats and nitelife. Nothing wrong with hitting up San Antonio for a day. Driving to Memphis would take up an entire day of your trip. Not efficient use of your time IMO.
You could spend the extra time in Austin and SA and surrounding areas. Lots of "folksy" Texas towns in between.

Or if you wanted to add some big city vibe to your trip you could drive to Houston, its about 3 hrs. away, they have world class museums and such that you cant find in Austin/SA if thats your sort of thing.

You dont really say what you like to do so Ill write what I would do..

In austin rent a mountain bike from cycle progression and go mountain biking in the barton creek greenbelt party on 6th street, see esthers follies (comedy show). Drive to houston and go to texas city and take kitesurfing lessons for 3 days. Houston has great asian food. You can catch a houston rockets game. Hang out in galveston and houston, lots of bars. Once you are in houston, new orleans is only 5 hours 18 minutes (probably a bit less than that). Mardi gras is feb 12 in new orleans but the parties start the weekend before. If you dont want to go that far, austin has a pretty decent mardi gras party as does galveston.

On the way to new orleans you can stop in lake charles LA and play poker on the riverboat casino.

Austin 97 thanks for the tips. I only have 5 days so keep that in mind. I am 25 and want to eat, drink, party, see sites, do some outside activities (renting a bike is def an option)and cover some ground.

I just transferred jobs so I won't have much vacation time and this is my first time in Texas. I love to just see as much as possible in my given amount of time.
