Hey Everyone,

i'm moving back to Austin from Htown and ....
I will be starting work in a couple of weeks on Parmer Lane in 78729 zip code.
I used to live 5 minutes south of downtown on Monterey Oaks blvd.
I'm guessing that area is too far but I would love to live about 10 minutes to work and 10 minute drive to downtown. Any recommendations on apts in the 800/ 850 range or less in good areas? Don't want south east or areas like that.

Also since I will be living north of downtown, will I miss most of the traffic going to Parmer Lane if I take Mopac to Parmer or another route that you recommend?

I don't want to live all the way up in 78729, I like to be close to downtown like 10 minutes evenings or weekends to hit the park, bars, dog park, lake etc.

Also is Lakeway close to 78729 on Parmer Lane...would you recommend an apt in that area? I could give up downtown to have Lakeway views but ideally i'd love hill country and close to downtown.

Thanks in advance for your advice which is much needed

I'd suggest either Far West or Arboretum areas. Both have apartments in your price range, and an easy commute to Parmer & Mopac. Arboretum area might be slightly more than 10 mins to downtown, but less students and slightly newer apartment stock than Far West.

Allandale might be another option, but with older and smaller apartments and not so hilly. The Domain would be too expensive and too far from downtown for your criteria, but very close to your job.

Lakeway is NOT close to Parmer or downtown, and the roads would make commuting really horrible. It's also a very suburban, nothing goes on there after 9pm. If you want to live close to a lake, make it Lake Austin instead.

Great..thanks for the advice atxcio....

I'll start checking into the Arboretum and Far West areas

Do you know how the commute is from their going up to 78729 on Parmer Lane? Do you think i'd miss most of the traffic since I should be going against it?

I would prefer to live near Lake Austin...just don't want a crazy commute to work and home in mad traffic...my hours will be 7am to 4pm so i'm hoping id miss most of it

Arboretum to 78729 is only about 10 minutes and you are going against the flow of traffic. I second the Far West or Arboretum options. It's 10 minutes down Mopac to get to downtown - add the time it takes to get to Mopac and to your destination, but it's not a bad jaunt. It's a nice area.

There are some overlooking Pennybacker Bridge on 360. They are from $700 and up.

Thanks Moonlady...I think the Arboretum area is going to be it and Far West...I like the fast commute to work and downtown and less traffic. Plus I do think the area is nice

I'll check Pennybacker Bridge area too BevoLJ

Names of places would be a huge help if anyone knew of them but I'm glad to see the area has been narrowed down with your help
