I live in North Austin (very north). I have been here since 1992. In the same area, Parmer and Dessau area. The area has changed very much since I came out here. I still like it though I don't like the traffic now. I like the neighborhood that I'm in and I consider it to be very safe. There have been many times that I have left my doors unlocked and I practically leave my car doors unlocked every night.
I have always heard good things about Pflugerville district and the opposite of Austin district but I have nothing to compare it too. My kids do go to PISD. My kids do not dress gangster and I don't really see other kids dressing like that. PISD has a strict dress code or at least the schools my kids go to do. I have one child in middle school and one in elementary. My son in middle school is very smart and absorbs information like a sponge. He received 3 awards for all 3 subjects on the TAKS test. He had gotten 1 wrong on the science section, 2 wrong on the math section and 1 wrong on the reading section. I was very proud of him.
I travel to South Austin for work everyday or at least 5 days. I have nothing to compare the living to but I believe that both South and North Austin have their good areas and bad areas. I chose to stay north because that's where I have been all this time and I like the schools my kids go to. I live east of Mopac and east of 35. There are a few neighborhoods under the 200k price range here, actually theres alot. I like the fact that the stores are about 5 minutes away and the fact that I can go in my backyard at night and feel safe and just look up at the stars with my kids. No blaring music from someones loud car stereo passing by. No car noise form the highway to disturb me at night, no bright street lights glaring in my windows.
don't get me wrong there are things I don't like but I'm happy where I'm at. I can't compare North to South since I have not lived south.

S. Austin = To many uninsured drivers so be careful, si?

N. Austin is better, better schools and nice roads and IMHO better shops.

N. Austin traffic going into S. Austin is no where near as bad as S. Austin going N. Austin. lol

Okay, well I guess I'll take from this that the traffic sucks no matter which way you're going and everyone thinks the other has it worse. LOL!

Also, check out Pflugerville and its English language proficiency. It's pretty poor. I don't want my kids going to a school where the teachers have to focus more attention on kids who don't speak English. Also, I vote at these schools and the kids look and act like gangsters. You might want to think about private school.
My kids aren't in PISD - but we live very near Pflugerville. I think this statement is ridiculous and untrue.

Pflugerville Independent School District :: Diversity :: Facts (broken link)

I see a diverse culture through out PISD (which by the way, is a GOOD thing) - but that doesn't mean that because someone is bilingual, that teachers are overwhelmed with children who simply DON'T speak English. The LEP percentage (limited english) is 11%.

Pflugerville Independent School District :: District Departments :: Special Education (broken link)

Quote:
The 1,200 identified LEP students are served by 6 ESL prekindergarten teachers, 3 Spanish bilingual prekindergarten teachers, 23 Spanish bilingual teachers, 3 Vietnamese bilingual teachers, 30 supplemental ESL teachers grades K-12, and 8 educational assistants. In addition, a Bilingual/ESL Specialist and a Spanish Bilingual Lead Teacher provide leadership and staff development for the program.
The district spends 80% more on the ESL/Bilingual program than is funded by the state. This shows the commitment that PISD has to providing the best program possible for Limited English Proficient students
Where are your facts?

There was recently a news report that crime is increasing in North Austin despite the new development. If you live in North Austin, it's best to live west of Mopac and not East.
Yes, please move to Circle C. where everyone is white and speaks English. God forbid you have to be anywhere near those "East Austin People".

Nobody will believe this, but I completely agree with Jenbar on this one. You are saying things about Pflugerville ISD that are completely untrue and go against all common knowledge of the schools around Austin. Show us your facts.

I have to side with Jenbar and jread here too. Pflugerville? Ganster heaven/Spanish heavy? Maybe you're confusing Pflugerville and North Austin? Out from about East Braker and on towards the airport, it's primarily hispanic and maybe a little shady, But not Pflugerville. I've never heard these things about PISD.

Does anyone remember the reality tv show, "Welcome to the Neighborhood", they filmed in Circle C but never put on the air? Your post reminded me of it. ABC pulled it right before it was supposed to premiere.

Here is a description I pulled off the web:

Quote:
When the neighbors living in a quiet, picturesque suburban community get to choose the family who'll move in next door to them, their belief systems gets rocked as they try to get past their own pre-conceived notions and prejudices, and the idea that a neighbor should look and think just like them. Their choice doesn't get any easier when they meet the seven very diverse families, including a family covered in tattoos, a homosexual couple with an adopted child and a family who practice Wiccan, a pagan religion.
Will the resident neighbors be able to see past their own ideals and accept all of the families as people instead of stereotypes? ....

In the premiere, "Episode 101," the seven families arrive at the dream home - a 3300-square-foot house with four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms located on a prime piece of real estate in the recent development of Circle C Ranch, near Austin, Texas. The competing families, each in its own unique way, enthusiastically meet and greet the three opinionated resident families who have a vested interest in who'll move into the house.

No, that area is fine.
In my opinion, there's nothing really sketchy until you get up around Howard Lane. There's nothing really even that bad up there; just a bunch of run-down auto shops and, north of that, a lot of low-rent apt. buildings. I wouldn't be afraid to walk around there or anything.
ACC area looks totally decent to me.
