I don't understand how Austin can claim to be such a high tech center, when its residents have to settle for pokey AT&T DSL or completely unreliable and horribly-customer-serviced Time Warner Cable Road Runner for their internet.

I feel like this area would be a prime location for Verizon FiOS (which is awesome, by the way) and AT&T U-Verse.

Can we petition these companies to bring fast, reliable internet service to Austin? Or maybe the city can pull some weight?

where in Austin do you live?! ATT U-verse is available in my neighborhood and has been for what seems like 2 years, maybe longer!

Lost Creek. How is U-Verse anyway (speed, reliability, etc.)?

I'm getting the ATT U-verse offer envelopes every month for the past 6 months, at least!

I know, we get them too, only to find out that service is not available in our area. Doh!

You have to keep calling. I live in Pflugerville and we were told for almost 2 years that ATT didn't provide service to us. We even had salesman come to the door offering it to us, only to have them say "that's weird, you aren't in the service area". THEN WHY DID YOU KNOCK ON MY DAMN DOOR????

Then one day we were in the service area. So be patient, you will have it.

So, it sounds like we have a better shot at U-Verse than FiOS, as the FiOS contingent is eerily quiet. Oh, how I miss my FiOS

I gotta tell ya, we have FIOS here in PA and I don't think it's all that. We switched from Comcast because I don't like how they do business and they couldn't figure out why our Internet service died. We have the FIOS triple play package with some of the more basic channels (no movie channels) and I've never tried the DVR feature. My main gripe with them is that the picture gets screwed up on a frequent basis (much, much more than when we were with Comcast) and it always gets screwed up if there is any type of weather event. I do like their On Demand feature though. When we do move to Austin, we'll probably go with Direct TV.

For FiOS, I am only talking about internet. We've always had DirecTV for television and haven't found a better service for that.
