Why?

I did and I wanted to kiss the ground when I got back here

I moved to Savannah for a while and pretty much felt the same as you did when I moved back.

There is an older suburb near downtown that reminds me of Va Highland or Inman Park--somewhere in that vicinity. Many times I wished I was home when driving through that area.

Sounds like Ardsley Park.

I left in 1973, returned in 1989 and felt exactly like you did upon my return. Like a lot of 18 year olds, I wanted to experience a bit more of the world...as it ended up, my years away gave me a much deeper appreciation for my hometown.

Sounds just about like me-
Left in '77 and returned at the end of '87.
Came over the hill on I-20 past Six Flags and dropped jaw! I didn't recognize the skyline at all. That ten years was a serious building period.

Why? See the world, school, girls, beer, adventure, etc. (not necessarily in that order)

Left in 2006, coming back in a month kicking and screaming the whole way. I am graduating from college at the end of the month and since I haven't received any job offers, I am moving in with my boyfriend in Atlanta because if I'm going to have to work at a McDonalds, I might as well do it where the cost of living is cheap. Can't turn down the free rent, even though Atlanta is by far one of my least favorite places in the world.

Spending 4 years outside of the city made me understand that as much as I disliked Atlanta growing up, I feel even more strongly against it now.

Left Atlanta and went around the country. I found out there are some good things here and some very bad things about this place. GA beats about 80% of country, but I'm not sure we'll stay. I know where that 20% is.

I truly think Atlanta is one of the best places/areas to live...in the United States.
