I grew up about an hour north of the city and had visited Atlanta irregularly for concerts and whatever. I joined the military and spent some time out in Texas and central California before being stationed in Louisiana, which i didn't much care for. I moved back. Went to school. Graduated.

On a whim I moved to New York for about a year. I came back last year to attend law school but then realized my soul was too valuable to sell and put an end to that nonsense. Honestly, I miss the hell out of New York. I felt like I was living on a totally different level up there. If I was more settled and could see a family in the relatively near future I'd probably stay in Atlanta. However, I still have an itch to roam. If Atlanta wasn't the nearest major city to where I grew up I doubt I'd have much interest in it. I'm not saying it's a bad place but like an earlier poster said, there are "better" places to live...at least for me at this point in my life.

Six more years til the youngest is graduated, so at least that long before I can head back that way. If they all start marrying and settling here in TX, that will make it difficult, but I want to come back today!

Grew up in NYC...moved to Atlanta in 1982 to attend college. Stayed for 10 years and moved back north in 1992. After fifteen years in New England with my wife and children, we decided in 2007 to leave the cold and head to Atlanta, for my second time around. Things here have changed to some degree, some for the better and some not so much, but the area is still one of the better places to live in the US. I am regretting going to Tampa, but more due to the fact that my entire family lives in Tampa and the lack of an income tax in Florida.

I grew up in the suburbs here, left for DC after college and came back about 3 years later. I mainly came back because of my family, cheaper cost of living, and wanting my future kids to grow up around family but I'm not super fond of the Atlanta area, its just all my family is here and has been here for generations.

OP, have you been reading my mind?

I think that I really had to hate Atlanta first to be able to enjoy/love it later. Plus, the airport makes the entire world your playground.

I believe this can be a better city and in staying I am committed to paying/playing my part to make that happen.
