Hi folks. I will be moving to Atlanta next month with my son, mother and sister. We are looking at moving to Decatur, Stone Mountain or Smyrna. We want to rent either a 2 or 3 bedroom at around 800 or 900 a month. We prefer to live in a culturally mixed area and I would like for my son to attend a good school. We will be visiting in 2 weeks just to find a place to stay and I kind of want to know a little about the 3 areas I've listed and maybe which would be better.
I'm also opened to other suggestions as well.

Thanks

You are moving next month--April 2010???

Within your price range Smyrna may be the area that will most closely match your criteria. $800-900 may be low for metro Atlanta.

Thanks. Is Smyrna a decent place to live. I lived in Marietta once before but never really went anywhere else. Is Smyrna similar to Marietta ?

There have been many previous threads about living in Smyrna and posters have identified the better areas and areas that you might want to avoid.

Here is one thread>>>
Possibly moving to Smyrna. Couple of questions.

I live across town and don't have a great deal of FYI on Smyrna but I believe there has been considerable growth and development.

I live in Decatur... just keep in mind that Decatur is huge... Downtown decatur is quite different that say Decatur near South Dekalb Mall... I like the entire area.... Apt living is reasonable... I also lived in Stone Mountain when I first relocated 13 years ago. I liked being close to Stone Mountain Park... As for the diversity... depends on what you are looking for... There are parts of decatur that are going to be predominately African American... and there are parts that are going to be predominately Caucasion... just depends on what you are looking for...

I'd prefer a mixture but if I have to choose then I would say predominately black. What's the job market like in Decatur?
