Hi everyone!

My bf and I are has been looking at single family, rental homes in the Decatur area online and we need help! We're both fairly new to the city. We have grown tired of the non-family area (Emory). My bf works near Emory campus/Clairmont Rd. Besides work and classes, I'm also home a lot more than the bf since he works in a hospital and his tween daughter come visit every other weekend.

So our 1st concern would be safety, 2nd is affordability, and 3rd location.

I would like to stay in the East side of 285 and above i-20. We decided to hold off buying a house until I finish up college, so anywhere between $750-$950 per month is good for now. Are the area around Scottdale, Avondale Estates, Belvedere Park, Glenwood Hills, Clifton, Edgewood, Kirkwood, Lake Calire, and Candler-McAfee any good????

Thanks!!!

Sincerely,
JoKris

There are several posters that know this area well--one is a realtor 'Intown??' and I always forget the rest and several others---there are previous threads--you could do a 'Search'---click at the top of screen/right side--go to 'Advanced Search' and enter specific keywords.

You've picked an 'assortment' of areas---and your price range is low for Atlanta--others may know more about how to find some 'hidden deals'.

Generically---Scottdale, Avondale would be near the top of my list for you.

The area around DeKalb Medical Center/North DeKalb Mall/Tucker might be worth the research.

That is my $.02 ---lol.

hth

ETA: Another idea--Clarkston---and I don't know how things are going over there lately--but there has been a real effort to improve the area---and there are some very nice little houses in and around Clarkston/DeKalb College/Technical School.

A bit more on Clarkston>>>

Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed

You might find something in your price range here--even though this is further north than the areas you originally mentioned.

'Montreal Rd'--I would be hesitant to recommend that area, FWIW.

When you cross the railroad tracks after E. Ponce de Leon you will find older homes and I believe this is the area that would be worth a look---North Indian Creek runs perpendicular to Church Street---some of those houses might be 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's??---the area grew in the 70's --towards Stone Mit--east on Ponce de Leon and became transitional but I believe it is on an upswing.

Anyone have news of what is going on in Clarkston?

I know one group of residents was involved in creating what sounded like a very nice dog park and the City has a 'tough' sheriff--intending to bring some law and order to those who thought they were living in the Wild Wild West, so to speak.

That's what I have heard---share the news, guys--WE Need to Know--you know we do...lol.
