so my husband just got a job in atlanta and we'll be relocating from brooklyn, ny. we'd like to live somewhere with a similar feel (if at all possible, i know it might be a long shot) within a decent commute for his job (located at about 9 o'clock just outside the perimeter). here are some specifics we'd like:

-urban feel
-within walking distance to shops, parks, cafes, etc. (we prefer locally owned shops to chains if that makes a difference). public transportation would be great too.
-reasonable rent (around $1000/month, though more for less is great! )
-populated - people around, walking, out and about, etc.
-good public schools (our daughter is still little, but we're hoping to buy later so it'd be helpful at a later date)
-family friendly.
-2 bedroom or large 1 bedroom with a bonus room (den, sunroom, etc.). once again, more is ok too.
-mixed population - we like diversity
-we're thinking apartment right now, but are open to any options.

any other advice is always welcome! TIA!

I would recommend looking at Midtown, Decatur (downtown) and possibly Virginia-Highland.

Considering the location of your husband's new job I'd recommend Smyrna/Vinings area, Inman Park and possibly downtown Marietta would be good places to start. Congrats on the new job and welcome to Georgia!

Nothing in Atlanta is going to feel like Brooklyn but given your husband's job location I second the Smyrna/Vinings area.
