Hello all,
I will be a new transfer to the area in March/April and have no idea about safe/affordable ($750-1000) 1-2 room apartments in the area. We have no kids and have heard about staying North to Northeast of the 285 loop.
.
Anyone have any recommendations on 3 things:
1. Length of drive from Norcross vs. Duluth vs. Suwanee on I-85
(i.e. Is traffic so bad on I-85 that we should stay closer to city and take backroads?)
2. Any other locales you would recommend not mentioned above?
3. Apartments w/ good management company
.
Thanks for all the good info I have already discovered,
Looking forward to your replies,
fd

There is really no need for you to look that far out. Within a 10-15 minute or so drive of PDK there are a lot of nice, safe apartment communities & condo rentals to choose from inside I-285.

Concentrate on complexes around Perimeter Mall (Dunwoody), along Ashford-Dunwoody Rd. (near Marist High School), around Mercer University East of I-85 and along Peachtree between Clairmont and Dresden (Brookhaven). There is also a nice new Archstone complex in Century Center, about 2 miles from PDK.

Right around the corner from the airport in Chamblee there are quite a few nice lofts and rental complexes, directly across from the Chamblee MARTA station. Some of the lofts are condo rentals. There are also many condo developments in the area with units for rent.

Bottom line, no need to subject yourself to a freeway commute with all the options available within a short drive. Good luck!
