Hello we are wanting to relocate to the Atlanta metro area because it is midway between my family and my husbands. We are planning to move in early summer of 2010. I am a nurse and he is in transportation so we would like to be no more than 30 to 35 miles away from the city. Can someone tell us which towns are decent? We want low crime, nice average homes say less then $250,000 and no trailer homes if at all possible? We would love to have typical stores nearby and things to do. Also we are planning a trip to the area around christmas time and will look at the places people suggest. I like Peachtree City very much, but I feel it is a bit pricy, there has to be other nice areas. That can't be the only place. What are your opinions on these places, Douglasville, Logansville, Dallas, Alpharetta, Sandy Springs and Fayetteville? So any help would be great! Thanks!

If you do not have a Georgia nursing license, I would recommend checking out the requirements to obtain one as they are rather complicated and time consuming. I also found the salary to be half of what I make in Connecticut.

Currently, I am an LPN and I am in school for my RN, I graduate May 2010. I've contacted the GA Board of Nursing already and was adviced that I can take the NCLEX RN at any Pearson Vue in MO for my GA license instead of wasting money on a MO RN license which won't make sense since we are leaving here right away. That costs $40.00. The pay in GA is better for RN's than here in MO. CT, NY, NJ, PA and other New England states all pay better but the cost of living goes with that piece as well. Here an RN makes about $55k a yr but you can buy a stellar house for less then $200k. So us going to GA will be a similar cost of living switch! I thank you for your advice!

Peachtree City has homes in the $200 - $ 250 price range. Look on sites like Craigs list and homes.com etc.( zip code 30269 ). Mostly they will be older homes ( 70's - 90's build dates )but still many are very nice and in good neighborhoods.Actually some of my favorite homes here are the older homes. Many of which border either golfcart paths or golf courses .

Have you checked Gwinnett Medical Center? They have expanded again. One of the largest medical groups in the Atlanta area.

Hi Nurse TD,

I actually got my RN in MO, too (St.Luke's) and worked at Children's Mercy Hospital. It appears the childrens' hospital in Atlanta are quite good.

Default Wow RoxyRn

I am in KC MO. I go to Park U and this is a tough program. I am from FL and hubby is from MO. So we feel that GA is a nice compromise between MO and FL. He hates FL and I hate MO. So something's gotta give. We also take care of his ailing parents and a warmer climate with less snow would be best for them. We really like PTC and plan to check it out in Dec. Did you work @ St. Luke's?
