Do I hold teachers or aspiring teachers to a different standard than others when it comes to things like spelling? YUP

When we don't demand excellence from people, we get what we get. The fact that we're even having this discussion speaks volumes.
As a former educator I absolutely agree with you, Neil.

My argument is more about self-righteousness/stone-throwing, etc...
Nobody was "attacking" anyone. No one was "self righteous." I simply stated my belief, and one that is shared by others, that it means more when a teacher makes these kinds of mistakes, as opposed to when others make them. You will not find a single example of my correcting anyone on this forum for any other kind of writing error. This was about accountability, not spelling.

If you can't make that connection and understand my meaning, then I can't help that, but please don't insult me for holding people who should be examples to that higher standard.

Especially when one is inquiring about employment!

Hey Rainy...I knew you would get my point...that's why I took the time to explain myself to you (you're one of the "golden-ones" on here)...

I realize now when I first started posting on this thread it seemed like I was defending poor spelling in the classroom...when I was really just trying to stop a self-righteous (sp?) onslaught...

...And I had a colleague (and she deserved what happened to her and she was a poor teacher...3rd grade):

She misspelled some comments on one of her student's papers (sent home)...the parents circled the misspellings and sent the paper right back to the her! (Unfortunately, this student's parents had a bad reputation for complaining too much among the faculty, etc...however, when their daughter came to my class the next year...everything was fine and they were so supportive and appreciative! They were valid in their complaints/demands.)

Wasn't throwing stones, and I don't need to be careful, but thanks for your concern. You should spend more time commenting about the topic and content of the post, instead of trying to scold me.

You are a master manipulator...it's funny how you are trying to play victim now when you were the all-out aggressor. Wow. lol. Unbelievable.

I don't believe I like this woman's attitude. I also think we have enough illiterate chilluns here in Georgia. Perhaps she should consider seeking employment somewhere else...Like Mississippi.

As I believe this would apply almost anywhere, any teacher seeking a job in special ed, science and mathematics will have better job opportunities than those in other fields, example: English. Another teach on the Atlanta forums said that this year is the worst ever for teacher hiring, no matter what county.
