Moving to Atlanta this summer, will work at Clayton State University. Seeking opinions on interesting, safe neighborhoods with no more than 30 minute commute--I'll be renting, preferably a house. Hapeville, East Point, and Decatur have been recommended, also Virginia Highlands. Any other recommendations? I'm a single, straight, professional woman, 40s, liberal. Thanks for any recommendations or heads-up on areas to avoid!

I would pretty much avoid most of Clayton County (Jonesboro, Riverdale) to live. That county has gone downhill pretty quickly. Some people on here have mixed reviews about East Point and College Park, but I have heard of people who like it and find safe places to live.
