What do you know about Morrow? I think it's Clayton County.
I have a family friend possibly relocating for business (not his business; a business he works for). He has the choice of Morrow, Augusta, or Savannah. He is coming from out of state. 60, not married,
and his kids are married and on their own.
He is trying to decide the better choice/location.

Vague post, but will provide what I know. I would post this in the Georgia area asking about Augusta or Savannah. If he is near the end of his career, nearing 60, I would go for the town with the lowest cost of living. In terms of cost of living, I think Augusta is probably the cheapest of the 3 choices.

Does he know Georgia at all? Does he like big cities or smaller towns? Does he have a budget of some sort? I think that could make a big difference as well. Taking the time, visiting each area would definitely help as each of these area are remarkably different from one another.

This board could give you some general advice, but I would take it with a grain of salt and do more research online on my own.

Morrow, a matured suburb of Atlanta, is in Clayton county and you can research here easily to see what people think good or bad. He can move elsewhere like Henry, Dekalb, Fulton or Fayette and commute to Morrow or live there if he wants to. Morrow itself is OK, average overall, mostly a bedroom community with some convenient shopping (Southlake Mall), and the houses are modest mostly built in the 1960-ish (or -70 to 80s).

As you read on this forum or elsewhere, in a nutshell, the overall problem with Clayton county is very poorly-run public schools and that ongoing situation has dragged the entire area down quite a bit for several years already.

My husband's family has lived in Morrow for about 15 years. I travel down here frequently (almost once a month) and it is very convenient, 20mins to airport, close to shopping centers (South Lake Mall, Walmart, Target, Costco) and restaurants (Chillis, ihop, cracker barrel, ethnic foods). The neighborhood seems mixed (Spanish, Asian, Black, White) and mostly middle-class.

Like the poster above said, the major problem seems to be with the school system. Since your friend doesn't have kids, then he doesn't have to worry about the school system. Houses are modest (score a 3 bedroom brick house for around $40k when a few years ago they were around $100k+).

Savannah is a great choice. It is absolutely beautiful there . It is one of my favorite places in Georgia to escape to. One poster on here you might want to read /contact is Newsboy. He actually lives down there and I think could give excellent advice/insight on the area.

Cool, glad to read about what your friend decided. Definitely have him check out the Savannah forum on City Data for more info about the area.

I grew up in Morrow, and have seen it seriously deteriorate for the past 20+ years. It's similar to inner city Atlanta. If you are white- your children will be the only whites in school. Stay away for your own good and safety. Morow has been in the top 10 for crime among ALL small cities in the nation.

Where are you digging up these conceptions you have of Morrow & of Clayton County kool? I live east of Jonesboro & get around the county a lot & specifically in Morrow often.
After living previously for 30 years in Atlanta proper, I know that it has virtually no similarity to inner city Atlanta.
Good grief!
