I'm taking a job in Morrow and wondering if there are ANY reasonably nice apartment/townhome complexes nearby. Most of the older posts on this area present it in a very negative light, but I'm sure there must be some nice places, too. When I visited, we drove around and ate in Morrow--it struck me as very "Anytown, USA" (I'm from NYC.) I've talked to professionals who live in Stockbridge and yet I hear some people live in Morrow. Any advice on this area? (Note that I don't have kids so the public school issue doesn't really matter to me. Also, I have no interest in buying a house for awhile so I'm not looking to invest--I'd like to have a nice apartment in a reasonably suburban area.)

I think the posts you're referring to most likely are talking about the high crime rate and bad schools rather than how nice the apartment complexes are. Yet the cost of living index is not much different than other areas that don't have those problems. Also, just because an area is suburban as opposed to looking like the projects doesn't mean there isn't just as much crime.

Now's a great time to rent a house but if you'd prefer to have the amenities that an apartment complex may have, the best thing to do is to go take a look at some of them and see how well maintained they are and speak to some of the residents if you can. While it's pretty uncommon to find someone that's got a nice thing to say about the landlord or office staff, if their top complaints are instead about the other residents or about things happening, then you know that's not the place for you.

I work in Morrow. To be honest, there isn't a whole lot of redeeming qualities to the area. Traffic is a mess because of the construction over I-75 at Jonesborro road. With a couple limited exceptions (1 good Mexican place and 1 good Vietnamese place) there is nothing to eat but fast food and low-end chains. Every street has one or more "cash for gold" or "title pawn" places. A lot of large retailers have folded and left vacant buildings. There are several abandoned gas stations within a mile of my office. The only new construction I've seen in 2 years working down here is a QuickTrip gas station and a Family Dollar discount store. I'm sure you can find some decent, gated, newer apartment complexes . . . but there just won't be much to do in the area, except go to work. What's your demographic? If you are a young professional, you'll feel pretty trapped and isolated down here.

I commute from the Grant Park area, and it's extremley fast and predictable going both to and from work. You are going against traffic the entire way, both directions. I make my ~22 mile commute in under 30 minutes. Gas would have to be nearing double digits per gallon for me to begin considering moving closer.

Nice and Morrow don't go together- unless you think thugs are nice. It's a cesspool.

Are you going to go dig up & bump every Morrow or Clayton Couinty thread that you can find today & trash those areas?
Morrow is not a cesspool!
Stop making your grossly innacurate statements, some of which border on offensive!

I agree, How can you come to a forum and start bashing people's communities? ESP if you don't live there

I did live in Morrow for 20+ years, and My Mom lived there from 1968 to 2003. My brother still lives in Rex, so I'm not ignorant of the neigfborhood. Sorry your feelings are hurt- I'm not insulting individual people. The tragic reality is that a once nice are has declined terribly. Don't try to tell me there aren't ALOT of thugs there, as you and I know different. Sorry you are stuck there. You may be a very good person, but many people there are irresponsible, and disrespectful- and that's putting it mildly.
