I have been searching prior posts regarding the Buckhead area, specifically Garden Hills and nearby. I would like to know how family friendly it is: parks, neighbors in general, etc. Also, If we lived closed to AIS, could we walk there with no problems? Hope to make a visit in March to see first hand. Appreciate your input.

AIS is very competitive, especially in the lower grades. Have you put in an application yet?

Thanks for the info on AIS. We are aware of it and will be coming form overseas and have applications in as our son is a dual national and bi-lingual. I am from the US, my husband is not, and the move to the states will not be permanent so we will keep our son in an international school. We always jump on the schools first, then the house.

Private schools are among the best in the country. The areas around AIS are older, but very nice and cute. Piedmont Park is probably the most beautiful park in the city (although, it's in Midtown). Generally, most (if not all) of Buckhead is safe and pricey. However, if you do plan to move to Atlanta, make sure you have a job.

Garden Hills is a great neighborhood. My wife taught at Garden Hills Elementary in the late 80s/early 90s and is still friends with several of the parents of her former students (and in some cases the students also). Great community feel, the community pool and park around it are nice, very family oriented, etc. Wonderful place to live if you can afford it. GHES isn't what it once was, but sounds like the public school system isn't really a concern.

Thanks for all the info. It seems like a logical place to start based on the AIS senario for school. No job is not the issue. Your thoughtful comments have given weight to a real go-see very soon in March.
