I moved to Hiram, GA 6 years ago. Prior to that I lived in the Conyers and Lithonia. My jobs takes me around various cities in the Atlanta metro basin, so I can make a decent comparison. I am black, Jamaican, lived in New York, Los Angeles prior to Atlanta. I fell in love with the Hiram/Dallas area the first time I saw the place. I enjoy the neighbors, there is diversity in color and nationality, a rich trapestry of cultures unlike say Stone Mountain vs. Cartersville - The restaurants are good, some play my 2 favoriiate music - Reggae and Country & Western, love crusing down the 278 strip and the 120. You can find some beautiful areas, some not so great areas too. Yes, you do see the "redneck" flags, but one can live with that. If you are looking for some quite, country not far from the metro Atlanta, this is great. The Holloween Dallas home parade is the best I have experienced. I work work downtown Atlanta, commute is much better than if you are comming from Conyers or Lithonia, Henry or Guinnett Counties. Some improvements are needed: like libraries, Some of the school buildings are worn out, school curriculum needs improvement. Overall children activities are needed in the areas. But I plan to go nowhere else.

I see that this is an old thread but I thought I'd update it because I have some questions about the area. Can anyone tell me what the crime rate is like there? We will be moving there from Montana in 3 weeks, and only read about the outrageous crime in atlanta via channel 11 alive news.com - I'm glad I came arcoss this thread because we dont know anything about the area except what we read online - which is usually about atlanta. We leased a home there online- (never been to georgia) and are nervous about the move- hopefully we made a good decision. Can we get any info about the area that others may offer? Good or bad?

Here you go (https://www.city-data.com/county/Paulding_County-GA.html). This should help you regarding stats on Paulding County.

Also, welcome to GA! It is not as bad as you have read on city-data. IF you haven't realized, you cannot always depend on other people to give you an unbiased answer. You have to basically see for yourself!

Thanks for the reply! I'm really excited to move to Georgia. We'll leave n.w. Montana on Sept. 14th and hopefully be there and unpacked on the 18th.

anthonyr,

For future reference in case additional things come up, it would be better to have created a new thread of your own with a list of your questions, rather than to "bump" someone's old thread.
