brightview, we moved from Ridgefield, CT about a year ago and Alpharetta is fantastic. Depending on your home requirements, for your budget you can a very nice condo. Home as well, but you might end up a bit further away from Norcross. My $.02.

Alpharetta/Norcross

We estimate to get about $225,000 for our property up here which is a condo but we want to upgrade to a nice single family home so we can have a backyard for our Son and future children to run around in. I am so unclear about the area and need ot know if it's a safe place to raise a family. I've only visited once. Any help is appreciated.
Alpharetta is a very safe area. There are a number of parks, including Wills Park, built by volunteers, that has a giant fort for kids to run up & down and also lots of stuff to slide/climb on. There is a 6+ mile greenway for walking, biking, rollerblading, etc. The shopping is wonderful--Northpoint Mall and surrounding shopping on both sides of entire street. Many restaurants, mostly chains, but kid friendly. I hear the schools are good (but I'm an empty nester). It is pretty and green, with flowering shrubs and trees most of the year. Don't know what you'll find in the $225,000 area, as Alpharetta is mostly upscale. Fulton County taxes are high. (Maybe the grandparents would help out in order to have their grandkids closer?) Alpharetta is probably great if your child is involved in sports, etc. or you belong to a Mom's Club. Otherwise, it's hard (from my viewpoint) to make friends. Working in Downtown and commuting to Alpharetta would be awful--1 hr. min. each way.

Norcross is also nice and less expensive. Just be careful not to get too close to Peachtree Industrial and on to the areas where there are tons of Mexican, Korean restaurants, groceries, etc.

Good luck!

I live in Alpharetta and LOVE it!!! I walk/ride my bicycle/take MARTA (bus or train) everywhere and have not feared for my safety once!! I walked home Wednesday night around 11:30 and felt perfectly safe. Seems the area is filled with young families who are very friendly.

I'm not too sure about the home prices here as I just moved to the area and am currently renting.
