I know traffic is bad in Forsyth County, but which areas offer the least difficult commute to Alpharetta?
We're looking to move to an area with good schools, and have been considering the West Forsyth (Vickery) and South Forsyth (Suwanee) areas. However, we're open to other Forsyth County areas, but we're not sure whether surface streets or 400 would be better for the drive to my office at Old Milton and 400???

A Lot depends on the time you go to work, But... Most of the time surface Streets would be better.

What side of 400 is your office on? East or West side. ?

I know this is an old thread but I'm interested in this as well. My husband works on the East Side of 400 off Old Milton Pkwy. Any reasonable commutes from Forsyth County?

What time will he go to work?

GA400 is not to bad, but it can be slow from 730-830am But most of the time its moving at about 40mph.

If you are over in the Vickery Creek area, best bet is to just shoot down GA9 then go over.

If you are East of 400, in the South/Lambert HS area, there are good secondary road the do ok traffic wise.

Thanks for the advice! His hours are 9-6, so that might work okay for him. Do you know of any good sites to search for homes by school? I've looked for one and can't find one. Thanks!

Send you a DM

Most of the R/E listing have the schools on them but keep in mind that they are not 100% correct. Also school are county based and are often re-districted to balance student population, due to new school opening / Big imbalance in one school's population.

Thanks so much! I'm looking at the site now. It is really helpful. I totally understand all of the rezoning issues and I know it's a growing county but I think some of those homes with Alpharetta addresses in Forsyth County might be perfect. I mapquested and it says around 13 minutes to work. Assuming you'll double that at rush hour but it's still not bad.

The morning commute will be ok, but the evening commute may be more problematic. GA 400 Northbound goes from 4 lanes to two lanes at Exit 12 (McFarland) and causes massive delays

So if he leaves the office at 6 and lives in Alpharetta right on the South side of Forsyth will that be tough? I don't underestimate traffic here at all.

I'm still figuring it out myself, after being up there for 6 weeks now. GA 400 is a wild animal, you will unfortunately see a lot of swerving through the 4 lanes between McFarland and 285 (both Northbound and Southbound), some road range incidents and a lot of rubbernecking at accidents, and of course police. Throughout the week in the *morning most traffic is heading Southbound while in the evening it's mostly heading Northbound. Rush hour starts early on Fridays and it can be bad everywhere.

However the good news for you and him is he works at Old Milton and you live in South Forsyth, therefore limiting your need for 400. Which side of 400 is your home?
