I'm moving because my husband has wanted to make this move to be close to his family for years but we both had jobs that we couldn't walk away from. We have waited for 25 years only to see Georgia, the home where his mother was born, plagued with the same crime statistics that we grew up with in New York City.
Maybe I'm just different than others, but I'd never leave a city that I took price in and that cleaned itself up, just to move to a city that has the old problems just to be near family. I'd get on a plane and VISIT family every month if I had to, but I'd not destroy my quality of life just to be physically closer to them. Then again, I'm not from the Waltons or anything either. LOL. To each his own - I hope you've both discussed this in extreme length.

It's nice however, to know that you plan to take an active roll once here to get the "same old" out of office. Atlanta has a huge effect on the entire metro area - most of us have zero power because we live outside the city limits and can't vote for the Mayor's office, so we do what we can to rally for change and get people motivated to get out to vote. If you go through with the move, I applaud you for taking a stand even before you get here - many here don't bother.

The huge deficit Atlanta is facing is the reult of mismanagement of funds, not the economy.

That is true but: In 1995, however, two black candidates divided the African American vote in the Democratic mayoral primary, permitting white attorney Scott King to win the mayor\'s office. Blacks continued to control the city council, which blocked many of King\'s proposals for governmental change and economic development. Created early in the twentieth century on a wave of optimism for the future, Gary came to exemplify in many respects the troubled state of urban America at the end of the century.

Well Clark is a self made millionaire. Maybe he can bring that knowledge in to clean up.

Patience is necessary - just look at Louisiana and Florida - this stuff takes time, but the stuff that was / is rebuilt may be better-built than it was beforehand.

Plus, politicking is one DIRTY business - it's constant war.
It's something I don't recommend for the feint of heart

I don't get to vote in Atlanta because I live in Cobb but I am impressed by Mary Norwood. She seems to be willing to take on the Machine at city hall. Kasim Reed is just a third term for Franklin and Lisa Borders is a corporate hack. Norwood seems to be able to talk to all factions of the city and make hard decsions that must be made. I like that.
