I wish I could take credit for them, but there are someone else's photographs.

I can tell you though that while they are using probably a very expensive DSLR camera, the look of those pictures was achieved using a post processing process called HDR and can easily be done with a high mega-pixel point and shoot digital camera.

Basically, you set up a shot (preferably on a tripod) and take a series of photos at varying exposure times of a static location. Once you have gathered enough shots over a period of time, you process them using HDR software where they are all combined into one photo. The advantage to doing this is more realistic, higher definition, photos that expose all of the color and light sources we normally don't notice with our ranging of viewing.

For instance, this photo(s) was just processed with HDR. No colors were added to the picture:

They took the photo (at least the first one) using a Nikon D3 DSLR (approx. $5,200.00), but honestly, no, you really don't need a high megapixel DSLR to do a decent HDR photo. As long as the camera takes good shots in general you can do it. Even an "old" 6MP DSLR can do it, or one of the more advanced point-and-shoot models like the Canon G11, etc. Some of the consumer models coming out now and in the Summer are even going to have built-in HDR effects (tripod needed).

While most use 3-5+ images to "merge" into one HDR pic, you can actually just take ONE photo (using your camera's "RAW" mode) and in software expose that pic three ways - one very light, one normal, one dark, and then use the HDR software to merge those and get a decent effect too. It's a great way to do a pic so that the dark shadow areas and the bright sky areas all show up well.

geek lesson over.

I doubt if my request will have any takers but is there anyone here who has been to Hewlett Packard office in Dunwoody, Atlanta? Or has a friend who works there?

I used to work there about 8 yrs ago and from the kitchenette window(18th floor), you not only get a lovely view of the city but also a dazzling array of about 12000 cars coming down I-85.

Wondering if that office still exists.

not the prettiest photo by any means (and i guess more a test of the camera's abilities in my new g2x!) but kind of a rare juxtaposition of the skyline and peachtree creek @ piedmont and garson near lindbergh
