I'll see your comment " I hardly ever see cyclists" and raise you 720K in 2017!

I've come to the conclusion that they don't ride much in the area where I tend to be (i.e., Peachtree from downtown north).

That's about 2000 bikes a day. Solid.

Well, 720,000 is fewer than 2,000 people per day. That's fewer than drive down Auburn Ave. each day. And, according to the report, more than half of them are at 10th/Monroe at the end of the Beltline. Yeah, they're not everywhere....you're probably more likely to see a purple unicorn riding a teacup pig down Peachtree.

That's 720K or <2K vehicle trips in Midtown. Reducing air pollution and freeing up vehicle lanes for those who'd rather drive.

It should be remembered that these numbers actually represent a pretty solid jump up in biking from not that long ago in the city. The improved infrastructure is a major component of that growth, and the continued expansion of biking facilities will continue to bring increased use.

Of course, I’d never claim that cyclists don’t break traffic laws. In fact, I freely admit to doing so. However, even though I sometimes do things on my bike that are technically illegal, the simple fact is that in a car-centric environment there are many circumstances in which breaking the law on a bike is not only justified but necessary to ensure your survival. This is why I follow a framework far more sensible than any municipal traffic code.
