I was just reading about Waze Carpool.

To me this is much closer to true ride-sharing, as opposed to ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft. The latter (other than Uber pool) are basically taxi services.

Car pooling really can reduce the number of cars on the road.

When will we get it in the ATL or is it already here?

I don't ever see carpooling becoming a big thing. I could be terribly wrong, but people are too scared of other people these days.

You may be right. Car pooling was big in the old days but times have changed.

I think that it's only available in San Francisco, where "casual carpool" has been a thing for decades. Carpooling is huge in Washington DC too.

That's because their costs for parking during the day are truer to the actual cost. Carpooling has been on a decline since it's height of popularity in the 70's

"truer"

A revealing term. To the Orwellian liberal, The Truth is what you want it to be. Since cars are Bad, you think higher parking costs are "truer". You can search cqholt's posts all day and find nary a reference to the Atlanta Streetcar's operating costs of $20 per ride. That cost isn't as "true" as parking costs because public transit is Good.

A key element of carpooling is to have a lot of people going to and from the same destination at the same time. My father carpooled for 30 years, but that was because he lived near several people who worked in the same place. That's not so common anymore, especially in highly decentralized cities like Atlanta.

But maybe the Waze app could help to address that.

A more true cost of using valuable land in major employment centers for storing cars 9 hours a day.

I wouldn't want to match up with strangers, that's just odd to me. The only way I would carpool would be with friends or coworkers.
