I have heard of people who started out carpooling together and then became friends. We have done it with school carpools, where we didn't really know all the others to start with.

Of course there are also carpools where people wind up hating each other's guts. "Why does he always wait until the third honk and then come running out the door half-dressed?"

I don't believe taxpayers subsidize private parking lots unlike the streetcar.

I'm going to check out the feature on the app, but I doubt I'll be utilizing it.

I was thinking this app might be a way to get more carpools started. It's a good bit of work to try to set one up on your own.

Once you get a carpool established, however, the people aren't strangers to each other anymore.

Worried about strangers, really? At some point everyone is a stranger.

I dont mind meeting people. However, I don't want to ride with everyone and don't want everyone to ride with me. And this is coming from someone that drives for Lyft/Uber.

Over last 2 weeks, I have tried another app called Scoop that is popular in the Bay Area. I used it a couple times to commute to/from my work both as driver and rider. Some cities and counties in the Bay Area give $ bonuses to drivers and subsidize cost of riders. Palo Alto gives $3 bonus on top of what Scoop charges/pays. As a driver I can get reimbursed $7-11 for my 6 mile commute if I carpool or pay only $2 if I ride using their platform. In addition, the company guarantees to cover ride home if you get stranded because your driver cancelled or did nit show up.

Georgia Commute Options offers the same incentive to members who sign up for the service and use alternative transportation (ridesharing does not count, but ride-pooling does.)
