There was a speed trap discussion on another forum where I encouraged the use of Waze to prevent harassment from law enforcement. Someone shot back at me that I would be texting & driving then, even worse!
However, if law enforcement left us alone when we are driving competently at velocities appropriate for the design and conditions, we wouldn't have to defend ourselves with apps like Waze.
Well since new google speech to text works so well, problem solved.
It has become a police state since 911. See the cops in NM open up on illegal camper with no weapon? Or the ones in Fullerton that beat the mentally ill guy to death on camera and got off?
If it weren't for speed traps maybe Waze would have never been born?
Anyone who thinks Waze reporting requires texting either doesn't have Waze or has never bothered to familiarize him/herself with Waze's reporting feature.
I've used Waze for almost a year, and find it useful and easy enough that I use it every time I drive more than a 10 minute trip.
It takes about two seconds to put my phone in a mount, plug in a power cord, start Waze, and enter the nav destination, ... and then I start driving.
The only time I'm entering data while driving is when I'm marking hazards to make other drivers trips safer.
Waze even makes that simple and safe. You hit the Report icon to start the process, and Waze remembers the street location while you pause until there's time to safely enter the next few keystrokes. Then Waze puts the hazard indicator back at the original location. Sweet!!
You're saying allowing speeding would keep people from messing with their phones? Doubt it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for revised speed limits (or speed limit enforcement), but I don't think this is an argument that would gain a ton of traction. Folks who cannot seem to put down the phone will do what they want to do at any speed.

What do you think?
Why would you text? All you need to do is to hit "report" button and hit "police" button. Easy do with phone in cradle.
