You mean GA has done such a great job managing Atlanta and marketing the city that population growth has far exceeded expectations? Go look at CENSUS (federal) population estimates printed in the 90s and how low they were compared to what really happened. How can anyone plan for something like that. Chattanooga, Birmingham, Greenville are going to prosper because Atlanta is so close, and as such, they should pay the dues to help Atlanta continue to grow.

I noticed in an article that the GA legislature had floated an idea a while back to trade paying the full price to connect Chattanooga to ATL in exchange for water rights. There's a new article related to the Chattanooga-Atlanta mag lev and how the border dispute won't affect it (supposedly): Chattanooga Times Free Press | Border war won't derail hope for high-speed train "GDOT is in the middle of an $8 million federal study of the proposed Chattanooga-to-Atlanta rail line, including options of traditional high-speed trains and the state-of-the-art maglev rail, which uses magnetic forces to propel the train to speeds of more than 300 mph."

I like this one: “Tennessee may want to move the border once they see how much this costs,” said a laughing Sen. John Douglas, R-Social Circle.

Interestingly, I notice some reports also mentioning extending the mag-lev to Savannah. Couldn't a water pipeline from Savannah desalination plants be built as part of the project?
