The City of Atlanta is seeking to give the H.M. Patterson Funeral Home on Spring Street near 10th Street landmark status – a move that will protect the unique building from being demolished for new development.
Quote:
Tim Keane, planning commissioner for the City of Atlanta, said the property is now owned by SCI Management Houston-based, which bought the funeral home from the Patterson family. Because of all the development pressures in Midtown, Keane said the city became concerned the majestic property would be sold and redeveloped.

Glad that the building will stay, but I think it should be converted to something else besides a funeral home.

Also its surface parking lot should become something.

Could make a nice community center and greenspace.

Anthem ground breaking scheduled for Feb.
Quote:
The Anthem Technology Center, announced last year, will rise on the site of a small SunTrust branch, an old home, and a sprawling parking lot. It will stand just across 4th Street from under-construction Coda tower.

A groundbreaking is now scheduled for Feb. 21.

Designed by John Portman & Associates and developed by Portman Holdings, the 352,000-square-foot project is slated to cost $150 million. When complete, the tower will be home to some 3,000 IT workers for Anthem, a health benefits company.

I was just in the ATL and I loved Midtown! Would love to head back when it’s not raining for 2 days straight, haha. Peachtree St was sweet, the Ponce De Leon Market was neat, and Piedmont Park was beautiful. Mary Mac’s and Flying Biscuit Cafe were scrumptious too! Also met some juicy peaches out there...if you catch my drift.

Yeah the weather sucked during your visit, but glad you saw some of the highlights. In about 6 to 7 weeks, it will be drop-dead gorgeous here. Atlanta is unbelievably beautiful in Spring.

Here's a Midtown problem that seriously needs to be remedied. Those parking decks on Cypress that block the formal approach to the Biltmore are ghastly and have got to go. Here is one of the most monumentally beautiful structures in the city, and the view is completely obliterated by these hulking, Brutalist monstrosities.
Leveling them would not only enhance the block, but also provide some needed greenspace to the immediate area.

Note the top of the poor Biltmore peering over the top of this thing:
