I hear Rev Wright will be coming out of retirement and opening a wing of the Trinity church in Canton.

Now Bobkovacs that's not even necessary. I don't think PL or myself are condeming an entire community ,that wouldn't be very fair at all. When I first moved to GA back in 91 we were the first black family in our subdivison and never encountered a problem. This was over on Dallas Hwy and E/W Connector. At first some locals we spoke with thought we might have problems because that area wasn't even developed back then and the area was not very diverse at that time. Canton will become more diverse as other neighboring counties get crowded and people start moving out in those areas. I actually looked at a house in Canton back in 97 but it was just too far out 575 for us.

Funny, I barely have a faint idea of who Rev. Wright is.

Oh. I am not associated with Rev. Wright.

I was just giving my account of what I experienced in my many trips to Cherokee County.

I beg to differ- just by calling this thread "The Canton Experience", rather than something like "A Canton Experience", people are led to believe that what happened on one isolated trip to a car wash is a common occurence in Canton.

In a way, though, it's pretty funny that something so absurd has resulted in a 70+ post thread. If a black person "looked at me coldly" (or whatever similar term was used by the OP in describing the treatment at the car wash) in downtown Atlanta, I'd never give it another thought, and wouldn't think to create a thread here to discuss it- but maybe I'm just not as sensitive as the OP.

You know if some one looks at me funny I just think that is their problem, I wouldn't necessarily condemn a whole community. My best friend lives way out in the country outside Rome and she and I have taken the children to Canton from lunch and movies. She' s white and I'm black so if they look at us funny that is their problem.

Okay maybe I should have said A Canton Experience, but I was just giving my account. The reason I give it a second thought is because I don't go to some place to feel alienated. I go there to have a good time and not get stared at. As for getting stared at coldly, I know it happens in many places and it shouldn't have to be like that no matter who you are.

A or The what does it matter. It was an experience. I like diversity and wouldn't live in Canton or north of Alpharetta for that matter. I read these boards and feel for the people who come here from all over and buy the most house they can for the money and then after getting here realize they have a gorgeous house but are living in the sticks.
