What area would you recommend for an easy commute to the airport that is safe with decent schools? Our budget is flexible ranging from 160,000- 230,000. We generally like to keep our mortgage as low as possible because we like to play! But, we obviously want our elementary aged children to grow up in a good area.

We adore Peachtree City as we both enjoy running and think the golf carts are a hoot. But, it seems like we would definitely have to sacrifice on the house in order to live there. We've also researched Newnan and Fayetteville. I'm just wondering if there is somewhere other than the obvious contenders that we should check out.

We're not opposed to the north side either as long as it's still a decent commute. The train ride would be fine but would really like to keep it 30 min or less.

Thanks in advance! I enjoy lurking on this forum.

Unless this is too small, I think you'd be okay in Peachtree City.

Start with Peachtree City and if you can't find anything you like in PTC (Peachtree City), extend your search to Newnan, Fayetteville and Tyrone.

Just try and focus your search to Fayette and Coweta counties because that is where you will be the most likely to have the easiest commute to and from the Atlanta Airport.

Smyrna likely would be the only area on the Northside where you might have somewhat of an easy commute, but the problem with Smyrna is that it is such a hot area that you potentially might have some trouble finding something decent within your budget of $230,000 and under.

Anyplace beyond Smyrna would undoubtedly feature a much tougher commute and higher home prices than you might like....Which are good reasons why you should focus your search to Fayette and Coweta counties as much as possible.

In the unlikely event that you are unable to find anything that you might like in Fayette and/or Coweta counties, another place that you could look is in the attendance zone/feeder zone for Alexander High School in Douglas County.

The attendance zone/feeder zone for Alexander High School in Douglas County is an area of quality affordable homes and good schools. I've got close friends who live out there and they love it. It is also an area from which you can commute to and from the Atlanta Airport without having to get on the Interstate (most notably you can commute to and from the ATL Airport without having to drive on I-20 West which is often gridlocked during morning and evening rush hours).
