It's too bad, because if they could improve on that the airport would be even better!
Are you talking about airline employees or airport/vendor employees?

Unfortunately, ATL is architecturally uninteresting. A pretty blah looking airport.

It is a very efficient airport, especially for connections. It didn't make the same mistake that DEN made: there are walkways between the terminal buildings in addition to the train. Very easy to find your way around (if you know how to read numbers and a roman alphabet), and even the longest connection doesn't take too terribly long.

International arrivals can still be a bit of a pain. Used to be everyone had to clear security again: even those who were leaving the airport. They've fixed that, but if you have the misfortune to arrive at E, you have a very long walk to get to customs and immigration. Our last international arrival came in to E-1. Ugh!

I don't like that everyone goes through the same security checkpoint. Sure there's north and south in addition to the main one, but they're all basically in the same area. That creates quite a bottleneck during busy travel days.

And the parking deck is atrocious. They keep renovating it, and keep changing the traffic flow. And the numbers they put up on the marquee showing open spots per floor are never right. I don't know how many times I've headed to 3 with over 100 spots open only to find that it is barricaded closed. With the current construction that sign is totally useless. They might as well unplug it. On some day trips for business I just park in hourly to save myself the hassle.

I have to agree with you there, Mathman. The exterior is dull. The main terminal sort of looks like a bus depot to me. Not attractive at all. The interior is a bit better.

Interestingly I saw a article in the DenverPost few months ago.

United wants DEN to convert the utility corridors (Runs between the train tubes) from concourse A<->B to a walkway $60Million with moving sidewalks $50M just walkway. I'm sure Southwest who controls most of concourse C will insist that the B<->C utility corridors be made into Walkway/Moving sidewalks also.

Not putting in the walkway when they built the airport was a mistake. If the both trains tubes Fail for any reason they have a Bus Bridge from A<->B and A<->C But it takes time for them to Start up the Bridge, Several Hours to get it up to full "Speed" . Initially they pull 1/2 the buses from the long term parking shuttle lots, As they call in drivers to run dozens of buses, But that takes Time, and cost money to have a bigger fleet of buses then are needed for just the parking lot service.

What a huge mistake.

I agree. If you can read the airport should be easy to navigate through
