My new job is directly behind the Bankhead Marta station. My commute from Dunwoody to south Fulton is roughly 45 minutes. Not bad by Atlanta standards, but I'm excited about the prospect of being able to take the train. For one thing I'd have time to myself to read or write. My hours should be fairly basic 8-5 for the most part. Is this safe as a woman traveling alone? Clearly I'm worried about the Bankhead end as opposed to the Doraville end which I've ridden before. Would it be okay for me to bring my iPad with me to write on? Thanks.

On the train, you're probably fine, though if you use your iPad, I'd not recommend sitting in the seats adjacent to the doors. The Bankhead area itself I have not heard the best things about, but during the day as long as you're aware of your surroundings, you are probably fine, but I wouldn't "advertise" your iPad or smartphone when on the streets though.

Well, as far as safety is concerned it doesn't get much worse than Bankhead, but on the other hand you'll be doing it during rush hour and with all the cameras and security MARTA is probably the safest place you can be in any particular area. You'll probably get replies ranging from "Never!" to "Crime? What crime? Bankhead is nice!" depending on everyone's tolerance, so you'll probably have to just try it for yourself and see if you're okay with it.

At a base level, safety wise, you'll be fine going there on your own. Having your iPad out in plain view may not be the best idea though on public transit, no matter where you are. You might want to get something like this: http://www.cultofmac.com/155688/the-...ctical-review/

Been to the Bankhead station. Its weird because there is not much around it, didn't fear getting robbed or anything like that.
Be aware of your surroundings when using electronic devices and you'll be fine.

BANKHEAD!!! (In my T.I voice lol) you should be fine, 8-5 is pretty reasonable hours. Just know what time the first train comes after you get off and time it so you won't have to wait too long. Once you get to Marta you're fine with all of the cameras and security! Hope this helps.

From the MARTA stats, it looks like the Bankhead station (P4) has very little crime -- much less than Lindbergh or North springs, for instance.

MARTA > MARTA Police > The Departments

APD is not showing any crime in the immediate vicinity of the station either.

As others have suggested, I'd put my iPad away but otherwise it would appear you are in good shape.

Umm, are you looking at the number of crimes? I'm pretty sure Lindbergh gets at least 100x more usage than Bankhead.

Yeah, I'm looking at the number of crimes. Seems to me that's what you'd be concerned with if you're assessing safety.

But you are right that Lindbergh gets more passengers per day than Bankhead. (8,981 at Lindbergh vs 1,952 at Bankhead).
