Ok, where do I start.......The news blasted us for Gridlock during the snow storm two weeks ago, but look at what happened in Charlotte and Raleigh today (Winter Storm Pax: Charlotte, Raleigh Drivers Having 'Atlanta' Moment As Everyone Heads Home from Work at the Same Time - weather.com). Why are we not hearing about this on the news? Why did all the news stations go in on us "Southerners" but had nothing to say about Charlotte?

The ironic thing is, I spoke to client yesterday who is based out of Raleigh and she had the audacity to say that our Mayor and governor made Georgians (Specifically Atlantans) look stupid.........I would love to call her back and say, "How is your drive home going?"

I just thought you all needed to see this since everyone seems to think that only Georgians are incompetent when dealing with snow.

As a resident of North Carolina, rest assured she does not speak for us. I do NOT think Atlanta or Georgia is "stupid." One thing to remember about Raleigh is that it is filled with liberal transplants who even look down upon the rest of North Carolina. She sounds like a snobbish noob to me. The reason Atlanta got so much attention is probably due to that being an unusual situation because Atlanta is so large and so many people were involved. Another reason is due to CNN and The Weather Channel being right there. Atlanta gets more attention in the south than our cities do and let me tell you they ARE jealous of Atlanta's stature. The saying in NC is that Atlanta is the city Charlotte wants to be when it grows up. Charlotte looks up to Atlanta.

Wow, people need to calm down. Too many here waaayyy to sensitive and defensive here on the Atlanta forum.

Unless the severity of NC's traffic hits what we saw, there is no need for national news.

I'm looking at google maps traffic, it's mostly yellow, which means traffic, but moving.

We had black and red everywhere. Nobody was moving.

I read the posts prior to posting thanks. And then I looked at google as I stated. I'll refer back to my previous comments rather than repost the same thing....

And while we're at it, let's not forget that the Weather Channel is not geared toward "just the facts"; it is primarily a marketing mechanism geared to peddling just one more fad to "Oooooh. so insceure" suburban "trailing spouses" in the belief that spending every last dime will provide absolute security for their little idyll.

There simply is not enough profit in "business as usual".

I really don't think Charlotte and Raleigh are experiencing anything on the scale of what Atlanta did on 1/29. I'm guessing that they will experience something along the lines of Snowjam '82: 4-5 hr delays getting home, but not 16-20.

^ one reason that i, as a directv customer, am glad weathernation stepped in. i don't watch weather news often, but it's so much better and reminds me of what TWC was back in the 90s and early 2000s...

I don't wish what happened in Atlanta on anybody, but after seeing what happened to us, there is NO excuse for any local or state governments to not be prepared.
