Here Now, ATL's Top 10 Towers That Never Happened - Curbed Maps - Curbed Atlanta

A list of big towers that never came to be, basically all because of the great recession.

Atlanta's skyline could have been very different.

The Allen Plaza tower would have been awesome in that location. Wish they would have buit it even though it looks way too familiar to the Shanghai World Financial center in Shanghai. Also wish they would have built the Aquarius tower. Thanks for sharing.

GLG Park Plaza would've been sweet.

That top 10 list needs to replace One Cityplace Buckhead with Promenade I & III.
Those 2 towers, especially I would have transformed Midtown's skyline...

Is there ANY ANY ANY chance these projects could be resurrected when the property market and economy recovers?

I wonder if anyone has the ability to create a graphic or good illustration of what Atlanta WOULD have looked like with all 10 projects completed (+ Promenade I & III)... Anybody?

Most, if not all of the properties these projects were going to be built on have either gone into foreclosure or sold off. The developers would have to re-aquire the lot (some lots aren't empty anymore) and probably apply for the building permit with the city again on top of trying to get bank financing. Sure there's a chance but it's a snowball's chance in hell. They'd practically have to start over. The only thing they'd still have are the architectural plans.

I'd loved to have seen some of these towers come to fruition, especially the Madarin Oriental but I think they're lost forever.

Oh yeah the Mandarin Tower was a beauty, and had such a unique design. I wonder if Donald brings back his tower proposal.

There was also a 70 story tower proposed for 17th and Peachtree. There was talk it being IHG world headquarters as well as a hotel.
I can imagine the uproar from Ansley Park if plans for this started jelling.
