Transit hub could stretch from park to Five Points | www.ajc.com

Preliminary report considering three designs, and there is apparently 1 stand out. This summer the financial report will come out, then it's up to the city and state decide how to move forward. Progress!

I'm glad that the stand out/leading alternative is the one that connects/makes it easier to connect to the Five Points MARTA Station. This is a no-brainer, in my opinion.

Now--let's focus on getting funding and starting commuter rail.

The appropriate official name for the Downtown Multimodal Passenger Terminal:

Grand Five Points Station

out of the three options i really liked option B. the idea of having a train station with a street running right through the middle, and the train station towering over the road just seemed really cool. option c is cool, too though.

I think if you say it just 7 more times, I can get behind it.

But my current opionion is that the name Five Points has a very negative connotation. I hope and pray that this catalyses a serious transformation for the area. New name, fresh start.

No.

I think Five Points and a "negative connotation" is matter of knowledge, opinion, experience, history, and roots.

As a native Atlantan, I don't find the Five Points name negative at all.

Five Points is very historically significant--the name should be incorporated and not discarded (like so much of Atlanta history). This is why Grand Five Points Station is perfect--a new start ("Grand"), while still connecting to the soul of Atlanta ("Five Points").

And true cities keep and cherish their place names--knowing full well that "positive" and "negative" connotations is just a matter of dates...and prejudices.
