I was wondering what was the status of the long planned Terminal in the Gulch Area of Downtown...Last I heard a Developer was picked but havent heard anything since...Im lookimg forward to the day when we can board a multitude of Trains to our destinations around the region...Also I beleive that downtown will experience Quite an Uptick in Developmemt Downtown as many folks would want to be near this Terminal and the stores that may come with it...Im from new york so im all for commuter rail...But as A former resident of Newton
County for 5 years I know All to well that Atlanta is in DIRE NEED of Commuter Rail...I hope the transit Tax is passed then maybe we can get a Move on
This project as well..Any positive news is Appreciated...

Commuter rail will be best technology to get transit to the suburban counties. Have commuter rail like Long Island RR for Atlanta serving Cherokee, Cobb, Forsyth, Fayette, Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Henry Counties. Its cheaper and better for longer distance travel than HRT. Also, it will start intercity rail travel for the state of GA. I agree Commuter Rail is the best mode of transit for the metro area.

Would love to see this station appear soon. I know the Atlanta to Griffin commuter line is on the list of TSPLOST projects, but I don't recall a downtown station. That project list is quite vague. One of the biggest disappoints of the tax is the lack of a comprehensive commuter rail plan.

I don't think the lack of a downtown station is what is preventing regional rail. Besides, we already have most of the promised functions of this project.

I don't see why they would in particular. What we have in Five Points should attract many people to live in downtown. But it's not a strong draw. A MARTA/Amtrak/Greyhound terminal is not exactly a development magnet.

I guess you are seeing this from a New Yorker's POV. Atlanta doesn't have the same dynamics. In NYC, space is precious, but not so much in Atlanta.

Even if passenger rail isn't in the cards for the ATL this is still a terrific location for a new bus depot, with direct connections to MARTA, limos, taxis and private automobiles.

But it already has a direct connection to MARTA at Garnett. And who jumps from a Greyhound bus into a limo?

I think he was referring to all buses, GRTA, Cobb, Gwinnett, Megabus, etc...along with Greyhound, Amtrak, and the potential commuter rails and MARTA. I think this would be great for downtown, it will reconnect the city grid and the loitering around five points will potential decrease with no bus access.

Megabus could transfer its bus terminal to the MMPT.

Well, isn't the idea to make the MMPT a little more sleek and integrated? The setup there at Garnett just doesn't feel like "big city" to me.

As far as bus to limo, why not? I'd wager that many of us have been on a business trip where you had to scrimp to get there, but when you arrive at your final meeting you want to look sharp. There will also be plenty of folks who want to transfer from the bus to a private car or taxi.

My point is simply that we don't need passenger trains to have a sophisticated multimodal station. In the absence of trains we could see a substantial uptick in the number of people traveling by coach.

Multimodal Terminal Progress

Terminal Progress,
eh?

Sounds like one of them oxymorironical things, don't it?

Terminal CONgress sounds pretty good, though!
