Huge in what way? If the only thing different is ownership...no one will know the difference.

Figure it, the NYSE Euronext, which operates the trading platforms, is currently owned by majority non-NYC investors anyway. A bunch of European interests own a large portion. In fact, Nasdaq attempted to acquire NYSE Euronext about a year or so ago. I think the justice department tanked the deal as anti-competitive. ICE will have to face the same regulatory hurdles as well. So, ya'll don't get too excited yet. Owning something in a distant location and operating something locally are very different. My guess is it will be nothing but a yawn on the Atlanta business landscape, if it happens at all.

Sorry. I'm in a Debbie Downer mood today...

Well, the Chair will be ICE's current CEO and the president will be NYSE Euronext's current Chair (I think is the way it goes). Lot's of companies have "dual" headquarters, but that's usually to keep the troops from thinking, "Oh my God, we are moving our headquarters!" It's generally just a PR thing.

You'd be astounded how many employees within acquired companies think the darndest things. Target companies oftentimes run expensive internal PR campaigns just to reassure their employees that they will have their jobs in the places they currently work. Sounds crazy, but tis true.

The combined HQ of the combined company will be in Atlanta and New York. I don't see the trading floor moving. However, perhaps due to the electronic nature of everything we can have a little trading floor here just to feel special.

I work for a company that merged and then moved some jobs to NYC and Chicago. That caused a high turnover of people in ATL they were intending to keep here. Ultimately, they built us a new office and did other things to make us know they weren't thinking about moving us or eliminating our jobs.
