Wow, thank you all for the responses. I have done quite a bit of research and it seems like all of these places are out of my price range. I am looking for a 3 or 4 bd house preferrably for under $1,050. It seems like Ellenwood and Riverdale have great prices but probably for bad reasons! Fayetteville is a little pricey and Newnan seems like it would be a long commute.

newnan is a long commute... so idk why ppl are making it a choice for the airport. the furthest south of the airport i would live is in tyrone. also take a look at fairburn, ga as well. ellenwood is very nice. my wife and i went trough 5 -6 subdivisions last monday and they ranged from really really nice to just ok (what made them just ok were that alot of the houses looked alike). all the SDs that we drove through were directly off of panola road. i haven't been to riverdale yet.

My commute from Midtown to the Airport is only 15-20 mins since I go the opposite of traffic. If you want a break from suburbia you should be able to find what you are looking for intown. I would look at neighborhoods like Grant Park, Edgewood, Kirkwood and that area.

here are some places in the nicer parts of east point and college park. don't let people discourage you from living in college park or east point. you could literally walk out your door and ride to the airport in five minutes without ever getting in a car, and these spots are pretty low-crime and have tight-knit communities.

for sale:

these are in a *really* nice neighbourhood and are really a steal:
these are also in a pretty nice neighbourhood:

Depends on your definition of "long commute." From historic downtown Newnan to the terminal at Hartsfield Jackson is less than 30 minutes, and only 15-20 minutes if you are already in Eastern Coweta County along the I-85 corridor. The same is true for most of Fayette County, including Peachtree City. It's 15 minutes from Fayetteville to the airport on GA Hwy 314 -- a straight bee-line shot.

Fayette and Coweta are your best options. With the housing market still in a slump, you should be able to find something close to your price range with lots of looking. Hire a professional. If you have to pay a little extra, the good schools and safety concerns will make it worthwhile.

Riverdale is NOT an option. I wouldn't recommend anywhere in Clayton County to anyone right now.

Yes, I think for your price range and to get a safe, family community you should look at Newnan. Have you looked in Peachtree City--maybe you already ruled it out. It may be too expensive.
